Andrew Lincoln was born Andrew James Clutterbuck.

He is 51 years old and was born on September 14, 1973, which makes his star sign Virgo.

Though he has perfected a Southern accent for his role on The Walking Dead, he is actually British and born in London, England.

His father is a civil engineer and his mother worked as a nurse.

Andrew has an older brother called Richard Clutterbuck.

Andrew chose his stage name ‘Lincoln’ while attending college as he thought the last name ‘Clutterbuck’ sounded like a poor character in a Charles Dickens novel.

During high school, Lincoln liked to play rugby, but was discouraged out of the sport and was motivated to take up acting.

He tried out for the school’s production of Oliver and ended up as The Artful Dodger.

In 1994, Lincoln made his first television appearance as Terry, on the sitcom Drop the Dead Donkey. The episode was called “Births and Deaths” and aired in the UK.

Lincoln has done many voiceovers for both radio and television advertising in the United Kingdom, as well as even narrating documentaries.

Lincoln’s first major exposure in the United States came when he starred in the 2003 romantic comedy Love Actually.

Three weeks before they started recording TWD, Lincoln went out and practiced his accent by ordering coffees & fried chicken!

Once Andrew starts shooting for The Walking Dead, he keeps his Georgia dialect for the full day to keep in character.

He also had a voice coach who helps him with his dialect.

Due to the demanding work schedule of The Walking Dead, Andrew didn’t need a trainer to stay in shape.

Andrew Lincoln has been known to invite the cast of the show over to his home for dinner, Steven Yeun, who played Glenn Rhee, says he enjoys his spaghetti Bolognese! (Obviously not as good as Hershal’s famous Spaghetti Tuesdays).

Lincoln has won two awards for his performance as Rick Grimes. He won a 2014 People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Anti-Hero and a TV Guide Award for Favorite Actor.

In 2004, Andrew Lincoln was nominated for a BAFTA award, for directing two episodes of the television show Teachers.

On June 10, 2006, Andrew got married to Gael Anderson. Together they have two children called Matilda and Arthur.

Jon Bernthal, who plays Shane Walsh in The Walking Dead – is actually one of Lincoln’s closest friends (in real life). They auditioned for the pilot together and were the first regulars cast for the show.

Lincoln said he had difficulties sleeping after the scene where he had to take Hershal’s (Scott Wilson) leg off with an axe.

He is 5′ 10″ (1.78 m) tall.

Andrew said that if an actual zombie apocalypse happened, cappuccino would be one of the thangs he misses the most!
