An assassination attempt was made on the First Lady of the Philippines.
Imelda Marcos, the First Lady, was presenting awards for a national beautification and cleanliness contest when she was attacked with a large knife. Her assailant was shot to death at the scene, and Marcos required 75 stitches on her wounded hands and arms.
