If you traveled to the North Pole, surely you’d find Santa, right?
Well, it seems that not everybody is in agreement when it comes to the dwelling of the man in red.
Many countries have different beliefs about Santa’s home, and with little proof available, it’s tough to say where he really lives.
Is Santa in Lapland?
In some countries, including the UK, Lapland is believed to be the home of Santa Claus.
In fact, it can be difficult to think of Lapland as being a real place but rather a magical land full of elves, reindeer, and presents ready to be dropped down the chimney in December.
Lapland is located in the northern part of Finland in Rovaniemi, and the Finnish people are certainly not prepared to accept that Santa might live anywhere else.
Lapland is the perfect home for Santa and Mrs. Claus because it’s cold, full of snow, and oozes with Christmas cheer all year round.
Children and families are welcome to visit Santa in Lapland 365 days a year.
Is Santa in the North Pole?
In North America, it is believed that Santa Claus lives at the North Pole.
This is not a new idea and can be traced back to 1869 when George P. Webster wrote a poem about Santa.
In the poem, he writes that Santa’s home is “near the North Pole.”
There is also a city named “North Pole” that can be found in Alaska, USA.
The biggest attraction is Santa Claus House, a large gift shop containing all things related to Christmas.
In recent years, more attractions and activities have been created as a result of families visiting what they believe is the home of Santa Claus.
Is Santa in Drøbak?
The Norwegians aren’t about to let the Finnish people make a claim to the home of Santa and have argued that he really lives in Drøbak, a town in Norway.
According to the town’s official website, Santa was born here and has never moved anywhere else in the world.
The Christmas House and Santa’s Post Office are two of the main attractions in Drøbak, and hundreds of tourists visit each year.
During November and December, the man himself can be found at the tourist office, where the walls are full of letters and cards from children.
Is Santa in Greenland?
The Danish people believe that Santa has a home in Greenland, and the Greenlandic children write letters each year to send to his secret address.
Denmark and Greenland have had a close relationship regarding Christmas for a long time.
Greenland imports Christmas trees from Denmark, and the Danish believe this is where Santa spends his time during the summer holidays.
However…
Saint Nicholas, the historical figure who inspired the lovable character of Santa Claus, was born on the south-west coast of modern-day Turkey and spent his life there.
Despite this information, nobody believes that Santa Claus actually comes from the warm and sunny climate of Eastern Europe!
